Murano Earns Another Honor: Best Midsize SUV of 2016

To decide the winner, five leading contenders were put to the test. This included test course driving, real world fuel economy, and individual family testing. The judges praised the Nissan for its quality interior, technology, family-friendly features, and drivability. They also gave the SUV high points for its distinctive flair. That’s missing from the others, according to the judges, who also reviewed the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, and Ford Edge.

Performance
The contest judges called it a blast to drive. The 2016 and 2017 Muranos are powered by a 3.5-liter V-6 and controlled by an advanced, next generation Xtronic transmission. In creating this Murano, Nissan reduced its weight by 20 percent compared to the previous generation. Active grille shutters and underbody covers improve airflow. Front-wheel drive is standard but Intuitive All-Wheel Drive is also available.

The engaging social lounge feel also impressed the judges. On the outside, the blacked out pillars and large windows create the feeling of a floating roof.
